...Goes Latin collects some of Mancini's Latin inspired music from the early sixties CBS television show Mr. Lucky. The second track, "Lujon," may take its title from the featured percussion instrument, but the real standout here are the strings.
Inspired by Ravel, Mancini orchestrated the melody in close four part harmony, primarily using major and minor seventh chords. The result is a lush, jazzy sound more reminiscent of a big band sax section than a chamber string orchestra.

And the smaller group of players really shine on this RCA Victor "Living Stereo" recording. It's so intimate one can almost make out their individual competing vibratos through the haze.
